SY 23/24 Foodservice Program Announcement

Dear THS Parents/Guardians,

We believe that all students work harder and learn better when they are eating healthy. In the beginning of 2022, the USDA decided not the extend the waivers that are currently in place, resulting in school districts across the nation to return to a “normal” operation. One of the waivers that was not extended was the ability of schools district to operate the SSO(seamless summer option), which provided free meals to all students regardless of income. As a result, Tombstone Unified School District will be returning to the National School Lunch Program that requires us to determine eligibility based off income level. We are asking that each family that has a student that is attending Tombstone High School fill out a lunch application. This application will allow us to capture the highest percentage of students that qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Our two elementary schools are operating under the CEP(Community Eligibility Provision), if your student attends one of these schools, please DO NOT fill out a lunch application as we cannot process them. The only students that will need to fill out lunch applications are those that are attending Tombstone High School.

The income guidelines change every year, therefor we are asking that you take time to fill out the application regardless of whether you think that you qualify or not. To make it less time consuming, Our application is also available online. The link is as follows: http://www.nlappscloud.com. Once on the web page, just follow the on screen prompts. If you are not comfortable with doing things online, you can also see the application that is located under the foodservice tab on the district website at: www.tombstoneschools.org.  Download it, fill it out and email it back to us at: jsummers@tombstone.k12.az.us. You can also fax it to the number listed below. We thank you for the opportunity to take care of your students’ nutritional needs while on our campuses and look forward to receiving your completed application.

Thank you,

Jeremy Summers

Students may bring their lunch or eat a hot lunch in the cafeteria. We also welcome visitors to join us during our lunch hour. Parents may place an order for a hot lunch by calling the cafeteria office at each school early in the morning of the planned visit. Please drop off lunches or lunch money in your child's school office.

All school lunches include a half pint of 1% white, 1% chocolate, or fat free milk. If your child is allergic to milk products, we’re happy to substitute an alternative milk product in its place. Please contact the school office if this exception pertains to your child.

If your child forgets his or her lunch or lunch money, Tombstone Unified School District will provide a sandwich and milk. We will extend this courtesy up to three times during the school year.
